LEGACY LUNCHEON IN REVIEW

MarriageWell celebrates the launching of their non-profit with a Legacy Luncheon, honoring the longest married couples in Ventura County.
Many of the attendees came dressed in ’40s period attire and arrived in limos…sporting wheelchairs and walkers but all with ready smiles.  The vintage photo wall was a hit as couples lined up to get their pictures taken (click below to find your easily downloadable photos).  There was a very original display of service dressed mannequins honoring all four divisions of our World War II veterans.  Another table featured a vintage 1940’s wedding dress.  At the entrance, guests were greeted by two fully restored 1940 vehicles.  Big band swing music, a fully catered delicious lunch, and lots of hugs and excitement hummed around the room as volunteers worked to make guests feel welcomed and enjoyed.  Our five longest married couples in Ventura County have been committed to their spouses for 77, 77, 75, 75 and 73 years!  Jesus and Soledad Hernandez filled the room with 45 members of their extended family and received a standing ovation for their nearly 78 years of marriage (one month away from now).  The Masters of Ceremony, Al and Leticia Perez shared stories of the evolution of this unique event and summarized the highlights of the histories of the honored guests who were individually interviewed by the MarriageWell team.  In the interviews, the longest married couples were able to tell their own stories over the decades, their fond memories, their challenges and the amusing stories they recalled.  In addition, they were asked what factors made their own marriages succeed and what would they might recommend to a couple preparing for marriage or in the early stages of marriage at this time.  Launching MarriageWell with an event of this nature emphasizes and highlights the goal of the organization to provide tools, ideas, aids and events to help all marriages succeed and blossom in their progress toward their vows, “Till death do us part.”
